Oluremi Tinubu Summons Oshiomhole Over ‘Childless’ Comments About Betsy Obaseki

The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has reportedly summoned Adams Oshiomhole, the lawmaker representing Edo North Senatorial District, over controversial remarks he made about Betsy Obaseki, the wife of Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Oshiomhole, in an interview with selected journalists, claimed that Governor Obaseki and his wife do not have love for children.

This statement was in response to an alleged comment by Betsy Obaseki, who reportedly mentioned that only the APC governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, is unmarried among the contenders in the state.

Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State, responded by stating that the Obasekis have remained childless since their marriage and have not adopted any children, suggesting it was due to a lack of love for children.

The comment has sparked widespread condemnation across Nigeria, particularly as the state prepares for its upcoming governorship election.

Sources within Aso Rock revealed to News Direct that First Lady Oluremi Tinubu was deeply embarrassed and angered by Oshiomhole’s remarks.

One source noted, “Senator Oluremi Tinubu was visibly upset when she learned of Oshiomhole’s comments about Mrs. Obaseki.

“She found it hard to believe that a seasoned politician like Oshiomhole would make such insensitive remarks about a woman’s personal life. It’s a breach of decency and goes against the values we should uphold in political discourse.”

The source added that the First Lady, known for her advocacy on women’s issues and ethical conduct in politics, felt it necessary to address the matter directly.

“Mrs. Tinubu does not condone the exploitation of personal tragedies or circumstances for political gain, and she wanted to make it clear to Oshiomhole that such behavior is unacceptable,” the source explained.

Another Aso Rock official, speaking anonymously, emphasized that this issue extends beyond Mrs. Obaseki.

“It’s about the dangers of dragging personal matters into the political arena. Senator Tinubu has always championed politics based on ideas and development, rather than personal attacks and character assassination,” the official said.
