“The journey from Ibeju-Lekki to Epe used to take hours due to the poor road condition. Today, it’s just like going to the backyard. That’s the level of ease Mr. Governor’s intervention has brought. We are truly grateful,” the monarch said.
The Onibeju, while expressing his appreciation, also seized the opportunity to appeal to the Governor for further infrastructural support.
He highlighted the challenges still being faced by several communities, particularly the lack of electricity and access roads.
“Some of our communities have not seen electricity in over 10 years. We are pleading with Your Excellency to help us fix the remaining bad roads and restore power. Our people are suffering,” he added.
Furthermore, the monarch passionately appealed for the establishment of a higher institution within Ibeju-Lekki, stating that the region not only deserves it but is well prepared.
“We have the land already secured. All we ask for is the government’s attention to site a tertiary institution in Ibeju-Lekki. Our growing population and strategic location make it a timely and needed investment,” Oba Abdulrasaq said.
In his response, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu assured the traditional ruler and residents that their concerns are well noted and already being addressed.
He disclosed that the electricity project has been awarded and would be completed before the end of the year.
“We are not just listening; we are acting. The electricity project is already in motion, and by the end of the year, those long-neglected communities will be reconnected.
Regarding the higher institution, we will look into the request and engage the relevant stakeholders,” Governor Sanwo-Olu stated.
He also praised Hon. Olowa for setting an exemplary pace in grassroots development within just four years of administration.
The Governor noted it was rare for a local government chairman to invite the entire state executive council to commission such a range of impactful projects in one term.
Projects commissioned at the event include:
Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Avenue – a 400-metre standard paved road
Bola Ahmed Tinubu House – a modern administrative secretariat with clinic, ICT center, security surveillance, and free Wi-Fi
A newly built Legislative Building for the local council
And the groundbreaking ceremony of the Ibeju-Lekki Housing Estate
