The event, themed “Thank You President Tinubu for Making Democracy Work for Students,” provided a platform for students and stakeholders to discuss educational opportunities and government interventions in the sector.
Muhammed explained that the Northern Project Coordination Office (NPCO), in partnership with NELFUND and the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PI-CNG), has launched a sensitisation campaign across 25 universities in Northern Nigeria.
According to him, the campaign is designed to increase awareness of the Federal Government’s interest-free education loan programme and encourage more eligible students to take advantage of the initiative.
He noted that the scheme is helping to remove financial obstacles that have prevented many young Nigerians from pursuing tertiary education, adding that it aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises education and youth empowerment.
Muhammed also reaffirmed NELFUND’s commitment to transparency and accountability in administering the loan programme. He stated that the ongoing sensitisation exercise would allow students to engage directly with NELFUND officials and receive clarification on issues relating to the scheme.

He assured participants that the awareness campaign would continue across institutions in the North to ensure that all eligible students have access to the programme.
Speaking at the event, the NELFUND Desk Officer at Modibbo Adama University, Abdulwahab Shehu, described the initiative as a significant step towards improving access to higher education for students from different backgrounds.
He encouraged students to seek proper information about eligibility requirements, application procedures and repayment terms so they can make informed decisions.
Also sharing his experience, a beneficiary and student of Modibbo Adama University, Abbas Aminu, described the loan scheme as a timely intervention that has eased the burden of tuition and other academic expenses.
He said the financial support has enabled him to concentrate more on his studies, noting that the programme has significantly reduced the challenges many students face in funding their education.
