Reports indicate that the building had been left unused by its owner for several years.
The state government had earlier issued a warning to property owners, urging them to make use of abandoned buildings.
Authorities stated that such neglected structures were being used as hideouts by criminals to carry out illegal activities.
The Commissioner for Lands, Housing, Survey and Urban Development, Mr William Akin Funmilayo, made this known on behalf of the state government.

In a statement released in February, Akin Funmilayo said the government would reclaim any abandoned buildings that pose a risk to public safety.
The demolition of the structure began over the weekend.
Items within the premises had been cleared out a few days earlier.
Security personnel have also been stationed in the area to maintain order.
At the time of this report, the demolition was still ongoing with the use of bulldozers and other heavy equipment.
