Local government officials in Oyo State have urged Governor Seyi Makinde to run for the presidency in 2027, saying his leadership would transform Nigeria’s economy and improve citizens’ welfare.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the appeal came during a solidarity rally held on Tuesday at the Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, by council secretaries, chiefs of staff to chairmen, supervisory councillors, and special assistants from all 33 local government areas.

According to a statement by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the rally drew hundreds of participants who were received by Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal on behalf of Makinde.
The officials praised Makinde’s record of “massive transformation” in Oyo State, urging him to replicate his achievements at the national level.

Speaking for the group, Chairman of the Oyo State Supervisory Councillors’ Forum, Mr. Ayodeji Oladepo, described Makinde as a visionary leader whose governance style had brought stability and growth to the state.
He expressed confidence that Makinde would bring the same transformative leadership to Nigeria if elected president, adding that the forum would mobilize widespread support for his ambition.

Responding, Deputy Governor Lawal thanked the supporters for their enthusiasm, describing Makinde as “eminently qualified” to lead the nation.
He said the governor had raised the standard of governance in Oyo State and would bring similar excellence to national leadership if he chose to contest.
Lawal later told journalists that the rally was spontaneous, emphasizing that the turnout showed genuine support across all local governments.
“The choice is the governor’s, but I have assured them their message will be delivered,” he said. “At the right time, Governor Makinde will respond to the yearnings and calls of the people.”
