The Oyo State Government has ordered the suspension of all school excursions, field trips, sporting events and other activities that require students to leave school premises following growing security concerns across the state.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the decision follows last week’s coordinated attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area, where several students and teachers were abducted, with some victims reportedly still in captivity.

The directive, issued through the Ministry of Education, takes immediate effect and cancels all earlier approvals granted for external school activities.

In a circular dated May 22, 2026, and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs B.T. Oyinloye, the government said the measure was introduced to strengthen the safety of students and school personnel after the Ogbomoso abduction incident.
According to the circular, all school administrators have been instructed to halt excursions, inter-school sports competitions, educational trips and any programme involving the movement of students outside their campuses until further notice.
The government stressed that the safety of students remains its top priority and should override academic and extracurricular engagements.
School authorities were also directed to ensure students remain within school compounds during school hours and to promptly report suspicious movements or activities around school environments to security agencies.

The directive will remain in force pending improvements in the security situation.
Copies of the circular were distributed to education stakeholders across the state, including the leadership of TESCOM and SUBEB, Tutor-Generals, Zonal Directors, Local Inspectors of Education, principals and head teachers.
The move comes amid heightened concerns among parents and residents over the security of schools following the deadly abduction attack in the Ogbomoso axis of Oyo State.
