The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State has inaugurated a 20-member committee to oversee preparations for its upcoming state congress scheduled for September 27.
According to Eko Hot Blog the state party chairman, Venatius Ikem, disclosed this in a statement issued in Calabar on Thursday. He revealed that former Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Zana Akpagu, will head the committee, while Mrs. Hellen Bocco will serve as secretary.

Ikem explained that the committee’s mandate includes ensuring a smooth, transparent, and credible congress that will usher in a new era for the party and better position it for the tasks ahead.
The party has been grappling with internal debates over whether to retain the current State Working Committee (SWC) led by Ikem.

While the state caucus has supported its continuation to maintain party unity, some leaders from the Central and Southern zones have expressed reservations.
However, the party’s local government area chairmen recently threw their weight behind Ikem and his team, unanimously endorsing their reelection.
Speaking on behalf of the chairmen, Mr. Odili Achom commended Ikem’s leadership, describing it as exceptional.
“There are different interests concerning the leadership of the party, but we strongly support the continuity of Ikem,” Achom said.
“He has shown competence and dedication over the past four years. We believe he should continue to lead the PDP in Cross River.”
