The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has strongly criticised former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, branding him a continuing burden on Nigeria’s political space over his recent comments targeting Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
In a statement released on Wednesday by its Director-General, Dr Emmanuel Agbo, Eko Hot Blog gathered that the forum faulted Fayose’s attacks on Makinde, describing them as reckless, partisan and harmful to democratic values and good governance.

Governor Makinde had, on January 22, held a private meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where issues relating to national development and Oyo State were discussed.

Fayose, however, alleged that Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, was present at the meeting, insinuating that Makinde lacked the courage to engage the President alone on political matters.
The former Ekiti governor further claimed that President Tinubu declined to entertain political complaints from Makinde, including previous claims about an alleged move towards a one-party state.
Reacting, the PDP Governors’ Forum dismissed Fayose’s assertions, alleging that his remarks were driven by frustration following repeated failed attempts to gain relevance within the Presidency. The forum accused him of acting as a self-appointed defender of the Villa.
According to the forum, while it would ordinarily ignore Fayose’s outbursts, it found it necessary to respond in order to correct misleading narratives and highlight what it described as a steady decline in his public conduct.

The governors warned that Fayose’s comments falsely portray the President as being solely interested in political calculations rather than governance, while also undermining constructive engagement between leaders across party lines.
Describing Fayose as more of a liability than an asset to Nigeria’s democracy, the forum said his style of politics thrives on hostility and crisis, which could further damage the country’s political culture.
The PDP Governors’ Forum also urged the Presidency to distance itself from what it called unsolicited political attack dogs, stressing that Nigeria’s democracy requires maturity, decency and issue-based engagement to thrive.
