The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Mohammed Kasim of the Peoples Democratic Party as the winner of the Gwagwalada Area Council chairmanship election in the Federal Capital Territory.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the result was announced by the Returning Officer at the end of collation.
According to the official figures, Kasim polled 22,165 votes to defeat his closest rival from the All Progressives Congress, who secured 17,788 votes.
Other political parties also recorded votes in the contest. The All Progressives Grand Alliance obtained 1,687 votes, while the African Democratic Congress polled 1,336 votes.
Having scored the highest number of valid votes cast, INEC returned Mohammed Kasim elected as chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council.
Breakdown of Results:
PDP: 22,165 votes
APC: 17,788 votes
APGA: 1,687 votes
ADC: 1,336 votes
