EKO HOT BLOG reports that the faction, led by the Party’s National Secretary, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, described the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting convened by Obi and Otti as illegal and a deliberate attempt to hijack the LP’s structure.
According to Ibrahim, the actions of Obi and Otti exposed their desperation to take control of the party. On Wednesday, Otti led a high-level delegation to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja to discuss developments within the party. During the visit, Governor Otti formally presented a Certified True Copy of the recent Supreme Court judgment concerning the party’s leadership, which the faction claims is being misused for political leverage.
In a statement, Ibrahim criticized the duo for pressuring INEC, claiming that if the Supreme Court ruling truly favored them, there would be no need for such a rush to influence the electoral body. He also refuted claims that they were attempting to offer a position to the party’s National Chairman, Barrister Abure, stating that the focus should be on the party’s structure and the supremacy of its organs.
