A motorist was allegedly pushed off the Odo Iya Alaro Link Bridge in the Maryland area of Lagos during a confrontation with security operatives over an alleged Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane violation, sparking outrage on social media.

According to eyewitness accounts in the viral video, the confrontation escalated into a heated argument over the penalty imposed on the motorist before he was allegedly pushed from the bridge.

The footage showed several security operatives engaged in an argument with a group of young men on the bridge, while another scene captured the alleged victim lying on the ground surrounded by sympathisers.

Narrating the video in Pidgin English, an eyewitness alleged that officers stationed at the bridge regularly stopped motorists over BRT lane violations and demanded fines ranging between ₦50,000 and ₦100,000.

The eyewitness further claimed that the victim was pushed off the bridge after refusing to withdraw money during the confrontation.

As of the time of filing this report, the identity and condition of the alleged victim could not be independently verified.

BRT lane enforcement and monitoring in Lagos are supervised by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) under the Ministry of Transportation.

The Odo Iya Alaro corridor was among routes where the Lagos State Government temporarily suspended BRT lane enforcement in July 2025 to ease traffic congestion before enforcement resumed in October of the same year.

When contacted, the Head of Corporate Communication and Public Affairs at LAMATA, Mr. Kolawole Ojelabi, referred enquiries to the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.

Efforts to obtain a reaction from the ministry were unsuccessful as calls to the Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, did not connect, while a text message sent to her had not been replied to as of press time.

Similarly, attempts to reach the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, for comments were unsuccessful, as calls and a text message seeking the command’s response had not been answered at the time this report was filed.
