Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the suspect was apprehended following suspicion raised by vigilant members of the community.
According to the police, residents noticed what they described as unusual movements and behaviour and decided to search the suspect. During the search, a cut lower right leg, suspected to be human, was allegedly discovered inside a large sack containing waste plastic bottles in his possession.
Ayanlade stated that upon receiving the report, a joint police patrol team, working with other security agencies, quickly moved to the scene where an angry crowd had gathered and was reportedly attempting to lynch the suspect.

“The team professionally dispersed the mob and rescued him from imminent harm, while the suspected human part was recovered as an exhibit and secured for forensic and investigative purposes,” the police spokesperson said.
The suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Command commended members of the public for their vigilance but cautioned against taking the law into their own hands, warning that mob action is unlawful and could obstruct justice.
Police authorities reiterated their commitment to safeguarding lives and property and assured residents that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
