According to the police, the suspect allegedly threw a stone during a fight with his sister, Chinyere Stanley, but the object reportedly struck his daughter instead.
The child was said to have been rushed to a hospital, where she was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
Police further disclosed that the family allegedly concealed the incident and began secret burial preparations without informing authorities.
However, operatives attached to the Akwete Divisional Police Headquarters reportedly acted on intelligence and arrived at the scene before the burial could take place.
According to the statement, officers demanded access to the child’s body and invited members of the family to the police station for questioning.
The command alleged that some family members, alongside youths from the community, resisted police intervention and denied officers access to the deceased.
Police said the situation became tense as some aggrieved youths allegedly attempted to attack officers and damage police property despite repeated explanations that the matter had already been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for further investigation.

“The mob remained violent. Officers were compelled to defend themselves, protect police property, and prevent further breakdown of law and order,” Chinaka stated.
The suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
