EKO HOT BLOG reports that Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated this during an interview on TVC News while reacting to the killing of three officers and the alleged abduction of seven others in Katsina-Ala and Ukum Local Government Areas. The assailants were suspected to be herdsmen and local militias.
Hundeyin said the ambush signaled that ongoing police raids were yielding results and disrupting the operations of criminal gangs. “These attacks are an indication that we are doing something right, and we are actually succeeding in displacing and dislodging criminal elements. We will not be deterred. Such ambush and surprise attacks would not make us stop doing what we’re doing,” he said.
He explained that the attackers had resorted to desperate offensives because raids were “putting them out of business.” He further stressed that the police would sustain the crackdown on hideouts until Nigerians could feel safer.
Hundeyin confirmed that six suspects were arrested in response to the ambush at the Agu Centre in Benue, while another 15 suspects were later taken into custody, bringing the total arrests to 21. “Everything will be done to ensure that other fleeing suspects are arrested and prosecuted,” he assured.
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the deployment of additional tactical units to Benue to restore calm and strengthen ongoing operations against criminal networks in the state.
