The Ogun State Police Command announced that four suspected kidnappers were killed in a gun duel at the Warewa axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Thursday.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement issued on Saturday in Abeokuta, CSP Omolola Odutola detailed that a white Paragon commercial vehicle, registration BDG 753 YH, driven by Morufu Adedeji and en route to Lagos, was ambushed at 8:30 p.m. by armed assailants in a secluded part of the road.
According to Odutola, the attackers, armed with firearms and other dangerous weapons, halted the vehicle, held the driver at gunpoint, and began robbing the passengers.
Some passengers managed to escape through the rear door—opened bravely by the driver—which incited the kidnappers to assault him until he lost consciousness.
Responding swiftly to a distress call, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit engaged the criminals in a gun battle, resulting in the neutralization of four suspects while others fled into the bush with gunshot wounds.
Recovered items at the scene included a locally made pistol loaded with two cartridges, two daggers, N20,000 in cash, a Tecno Android phone, a solar power bank, and three USB lights items believed to be stolen.
The bodies of the neutralized suspects have been taken to the State Hospital Morgue in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, for autopsy and further investigation.
Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo reaffirmed the command’s commitment to enhancing security and eradicating criminal activities in the area, with tactical operatives deployed to monitor key points along the Warewa/Arepo axis and routine patrols ensuring the safety of residents and commuters.
Odutola also urged the public—especially medical practitioners—to report any individuals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds and advised residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
