The Bauchi State Police Command has recovered a consignment of vandalised railway sleepers and arrested a suspected member of a syndicate allegedly involved in the theft of public infrastructure.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the materials were recovered from a residential building in Doya Quarters, Bauchi, following credible intelligence received by the command in the early hours of Monday, August 17, 2026.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the command said it received the information at about 12:30am concerning the vandalism of railway infrastructure within the Bauchi metropolis.
Operatives attached to the A Division Township immediately responded and traced the stolen railway materials to the building in Doya Quarters.
The police said the discovery came as a surprise, as the operatives had initially expected the stolen materials to have been concealed in a warehouse or government facility.

According to the command, the entire consignment of vandalised railway sleepers was recovered and evacuated to the police station.
The operation was concluded at about 3:30am on Tuesday, August 18, with the arrest of a male suspect identified as Abubakar Sanusi.
The police said investigation was ongoing to establish the suspect’s role and identify other members of the syndicate allegedly involved in the vandalism and theft.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
It stressed that protecting public infrastructure and other national assets requires the collective efforts of security agencies and members of the public.
