Seventeen passengers have been rescued by the Taraba State Police Command following a failed kidnap attempt on the Wukari highway.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident occurred at about 11:45 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2025, when a white Toyota bus belonging to People’s Choice Company, en route from Enugu to Yola, came under attack near the Federal University Wukari.
According to a statement released by police spokesperson, James Lashan Saminu, suspected kidnappers intercepted the vehicle, with registration number 26G-17TR, and attempted to abduct the passengers.
Acting swiftly on a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer of Wukari Division, Anthony Jerry, led a team of officers with support from nearby military units. Their prompt response forced the assailants to flee into nearby bushes.
Although one passenger, 22-year-old Sadiq Usman of Chamba ethnicity, was initially unaccounted for, he was later located unharmed following a coordinated search operation.
Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Bretet Simon, commended the security team for their prompt action. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating kidnapping in collaboration with other security agencies.

He also urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
