Mahmood Yakub, the Deputy Director of Public Relations for the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), announced the arrest of two suspected vandals by operatives from the North Central District (NCD) of the NRC and the Nigerian Railway Police Command.

Acting on intelligence reports, security operatives discovered a private apartment in Kafanchan, Jemaa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where stolen railway materials were hidden.
The recovered items included 25 short rails and 91 sleepers found in two separate buildings on the property.
While the two suspects are currently in custody at the Railway Police Station in Kafanchan, investigations continue to track down other gang members still at large.
The recovered materials are being held as exhibits at the Railway District Police Station.
Meanwhile, NRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, reaffirmed the corporation’s commitment to eradicating vandalism of critical railway infrastructure.

In a demonstration of this commitment, the NRC is set to spend N8.5 billion on train procurement this year, with the aim of improving service quality and efficiency.
Opeifa commended the Railway Police and other security operatives involved in the recent arrests, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in safeguarding the nation’s railway assets.
He commended the Railway Police Area Command in Kafanchan for their successful operation in arresting suspected vandals and recovering stolen railway materials.
