President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has openly criticised former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, labeling his administration as “toxic.”
Eko Hot Blog reports that the president made the remark on Thursday during the commissioning of the Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development in Rigachikun, as well as a 300-bed specialist hospital in Millennium City, Kaduna State.

“Uba Sani has performed wonders and changed the environment from a previous toxic, uncontrollable environment to a state of life, progress, and development. I say thank you, my comrade,” Tinubu declared to applause.
The president’s blunt remark is seen as a response to the growing tension between him and El-Rufai, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) amid months of political friction.
El-Rufai, once viewed as a close ally of President Tinubu and a key player in the APC, saw his relationship with the president deteriorate after the Senate refused to confirm his nomination for a ministerial position in 2023.
The former governor has since launched a series of public attacks, accusing Tinubu of betrayal and linking him to various allegations.
Observers say Thursday’s statement is a significant shift from Tinubu’s previously measured tone, and may signal a willingness to confront political dissent within the ruling party head-on.
Despite the political undertone, the president’s visit to Kaduna was primarily aimed at showcasing federal support for local infrastructure.
