Recent Photos Of Lord Lugard’s First Ever House In Nigeria & The State Located
- Sir Lord Frederick Lugard was a British Soldier, leader and Colonial administrator.
- He amalgamated the Southern Protectorate and the Northern Protectorates to become one country
- The amalgamation took place in 1914.
The name “Nigeria” was formed and coined by a British woman, Flora Shaw who later became Lord Frederick Lugard’s partner later. It was Flora Shaw who gave Nigeria the name it bears today in 1914.
Nigeria came to Flora Shaw by inspiration of what she saw when looking at Lokoja from top of The Mount Patti. It came into her mind because of the view of the Niger River and Benue, 6 kilometres away from the Mount, EKO HOT BLOG gathered.
Mount Patti Hill is a 1503 foot-tall (458 m) mountain and tourist attraction in Lokoja, present-day Kogi State in Nigeria. It was at this location that Lord Frederick Lugard built his ever house in Nigeria.
The house was just a Rest House where Lord Frederick Lugard came to rest after his daily activities as the Colonial Administrator during the Colonial era. He would go there to watch the activities on the River Niger.
It was said that he never received a visitor at Mount Patti house and only used the house as a resting place.
Unfortunately, the house is now a shadow of it’s past as it has been become a big bush due to negligence. Many people believe the authority didn’t capitalize on the building as it would have been a great monument for tourist attraction.
Let’s take a look at the house at Mount Patti.
