Speaking to journalists in Lagos, Mr. Tunde said, “My commitment to democracy, good governance, and justice has come at a grave cost. I am now a target of political persecution.” He alleged that individuals linked to an opposition party were behind the attacks.
Recounting his ordeal, Mr. Tunde revealed that on March 4, 2023, while attending a wedding in Ondo State, his home was invaded by armed political thugs. According to him, the attackers shouted his name as they ransacked his house.
When they could not find him, they vandalized his property and assaulted his housemaid, Miss Adeoti Rachael, who was hospitalized at Pillars Medical Centre following the brutal attack.
Tunde also recalled an incident on December 12, 2022, when he was ambushed and assaulted by political thugs while returning from a Labour Party campaign event in Alimosho.
He sustained a severe knee injury during the attack, which took six weeks to heal.
Despite reporting these incidents to law enforcement agencies, Mr. Tunde lamented that no arrests had been made, and the perpetrators continued to act with impunity.
“The police have done nothing, and my family and I live in constant fear for our lives,” he stated.
With the 2025 local government elections approaching, Mr. Tunde expressed concern that threats against him had intensified, casting doubt on his continued participation in politics.
He urged security agencies, human rights organizations, and the international community to intervene and ensure his safety.
“No citizen should have to live in fear for exercising their democratic rights. I refuse to be silenced by intimidation.
