Redeemer’s University in Ede, Osun State, has explained why its law programme was suspended for one year by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
According to a statement by the university’s Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs, Adetunji Adeleye, the suspension was a penalty from the Council for Legal Education (CLE).

The university started offering law in 2017 with only the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC), without CLE’s permission.
However, the university now has full accreditation from both NUC and CLE to run a law programme. The one-year suspension does not affect students already studying law at the university.
Redeemer’s University said it respects all regulatory bodies and will follow CLE’s decision by not admitting new law students for the 2025/2026 academic session. It advised prospective students to apply for other accredited courses offered by the university.
JAMB had earlier announced the suspension of law admissions in eight universities due to violations of regulatory guidelines.
