The House of Representatives has dismissed viral claims suggesting that President Bola Tinubu submitted a bill seeking to rename the country as the “United States of Nigeria.”
Eko Hot Blog reports that the clarification came after several online publications alleged that the proposed legislation also aimed to abolish Shariah criminal law in the North.

Addressing journalists during the presentation of priority constitutional amendment bills, House spokesperson Akin Rotimi firmly stated that no such executive bill exists.
He explained that the only items before the National Assembly are 44 harmonised constitutional alteration proposals jointly prepared with the Senate.

Rotimi also addressed speculation surrounding the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, insisting that her recent meeting with lawmakers focused strictly on the Reserved Seats for Women Bill, which she strongly supports.
He disclosed that the constitutional review process initially received more than 350 amendment proposals before being streamlined to just over 40 for efficiency.
