EKO HOT BLOG reports that this was disclosed in a statement issued by the House spokesperson, Akin Rotimi, who confirmed that members of the lower chamber had been formally notified through an internal memorandum from the Office of the Speaker late Friday.
According to the statement, the development carries significant constitutional and national implications, requiring urgent legislative attention.
The House said the emergency sitting reflects its readiness to respond swiftly to issues with far reaching consequences for Nigeria’s democratic process, urging members to make themselves available in line with their constitutional responsibilities.
“All legislative business relating to the matter is expected to be addressed expeditiously.
“Honourable Members have been strongly advised to prioritise attendance, given the importance of the issues under consideration,” the statement read.
The lawmakers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening democratic institutions through responsive and responsible legislation, assuring Nigerians that all deliberations would be guided by the national interest.
The electoral body had on Friday released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections.
Under the schedule announced on February 13, 2026, Presidential and National Assembly elections are slated for February 20, 2027, while Governorship and State Assembly elections will hold on March 6, 2027.

However, some stakeholders have called for a review of the dates, citing concerns that parts of the schedule may coincide with the Ramadan fasting period and could affect inclusiveness.1
