Rescued Woro Attack Victims Arrive in Ilorin After Months in Captivity

Victims rescued from the Woro community attack in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have arrived in Ilorin after spending several months in captivity.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the rescued victims arrived late on Thursday and were received at the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division, Sobi Barracks, before being moved to an undisclosed location.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier confirmed the successful rescue of the abductees following reports of the operation.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq also confirmed the development, stating that the rescued victims had received medical attention at a health facility. He added that the state government would officially receive them after doctors certify them medically fit.

The victims were abducted during the deadly Woro attack on February 3, 2026, when armed insurgents raided the Woro and neighbouring Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area.

The attack resulted in the abduction of 176 people, most of them women and children, following what survivors described as a coordinated assault on the communities.

According to accounts that emerged after the incident, dozens of heavily armed attackers invaded Woro at about 5 p.m., launching hours of violence that claimed many lives and left several residents missing.

Residents said the attackers, believed to number more than 50, killed indiscriminately before setting houses, shops and offices on fire, leaving widespread destruction in their wake.
