The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has extended its planned nationwide strike by 24 hours, following the expiration of its 10-day ultimatum for the Federal Government to meet its welfare demands.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the association warned that a full-scale strike would begin immediately if the government fails to meet their demands within the extended window.

NARD President, Dr. Tope Osundara, announced the decision in a text message this morning. He explained that the decision came after a six-hour meeting of the association’s National Executive Council (NEC).

According to Osundara, the government reached out to the association yesterday and promised to address their concerns. As the Eko blog reports, this engagement prompted the NEC to give the government a final 24-hour chance.
The doctors’ demands include the immediate disbursement of the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) to beneficiaries and for the MDCN to upgrade their membership certificates.
Dr. Osundara’s message was a stark warning to the government. He wrote, “If there is no payment by today, then tomorrow we will start the strike immediately.”
