United States Senator, Riley Moore, has dismissed reports suggesting that the US is planning to divide Nigeria, describing the claims as unfounded.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement released on Saturday, Moore clarified that while he recently visited Nigeria and held several high-level meetings with government officials, the issue of dividing the country was never discussed.

According to the lawmaker, none of his engagements raised the idea of breaking up Nigeria in any serious or formal manner. He stressed that such narratives are misleading and potentially harmful.
Moore warned that any attempt to embolden separatist movements would worsen insecurity and disproportionately affect Christians, particularly in Northern Nigeria and the Middle Belt. He noted that a destabilised Nigeria would create opportunities for terrorist groups to expand their influence, making Christians and other vulnerable communities less safe across the country and the wider African continent.

“I remain committed to working to save the lives of our brothers and sisters in Christ and, indeed, all Nigerians who are suffering from the instability caused by terrorism,” he said.
The senator also highlighted the recently signed security cooperation agreement between the United States and Nigeria, describing it as a significant step towards addressing violence and strengthening bilateral ties.
Moore added that the agreement reflects a shared commitment by both nations to improve security, tackle terrorism and deepen diplomatic relations for mutual benefit.
