- Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State have purchased the governorship expression of interest and nomination forms for Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the 2027 elections.
- Awaji-Inombek Abiante, a member of the House of Representatives who led the delegation, described the gesture as a democratic tradition rooted in the collective will of the people rather than personal motivation.
- The endorsement is based on Fubara’s performance in infrastructure, such as connecting previously isolated communities like Andoni and rehabilitating the State Secretariat.
- The move highlights Fubara’s efforts to consolidate power within the APC following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid a political rift with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

Abiante emphasized that the decision was a reflection of the people’s feelings rather than the governor’s personal influence.
He noted that Fubara neither instigated nor influenced the purchase, which is intended to be presented to him formally on Friday.
The stakeholders pointed to significant strides in the blue economy and expanded infrastructure access for riverine areas as key reasons for their support.

“This is a leader who understands the pains of his people and responds with action,” Abiante stated, highlighting the governor’s focus on citizens’ welfare.
The procurement of these forms marks a significant milestone in Fubara’s transition to the APC.
Following a highly publicized fallout with Nyesom Wike over the control of state political structures, Fubara’s move to the APC altered the state’s traditional power dynamics.
By securing the backing of major party stakeholders early, the governor is positioning himself to maintain his seat under his new party banner while navigating the ongoing realignments within Rivers State politics.
