Meanwhile, questions have been raised over the absence of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and some of his loyalists during the election. According to reports, key figures in his camp, including Chief of Staff Edison Ehie and Secretary to the State Government Tammy Danagogo, were missing from their polling units.
Similarly, the 23 former local government chairmen, who were earlier sacked by the Supreme Court, also shunned the polls.
A loyalist of the governor, who spoke to Daily Post, explained that their absence was deliberate. He said, “We knew the winners before the election started. So why do we need to waste our precious time to go and vote? Vote for who?”

He further disclosed that Governor Fubara is currently out of the country and is expected back early next month, close to when he is due to resume office. He added, “Most of the things happening today are parts of the agreement Wike and Fubara signed in the presence of Mr President. They have taken the power from the governor.”
