The Federal Government has announced the completion of a comprehensive review of curricula for basic, senior secondary and technical education, with a focus on reducing content overload and improving quality learning outcomes.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmad, who disclosed this on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the review was carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and other stakeholders.

According to her, the revised framework seeks to strike a balance between subject offerings and practical learning. Under the new structure, pupils in Primary 1 to 3 will take between 9 and 10 subjects, while those in Primary 4 to 6 will take 10 to 12.
Junior Secondary School students will offer 12 to 14 subjects, Senior Secondary students 8 to 9, and technical school students 9 to 11.

Professor Ahmad explained that the new approach will reduce the pressure on learners, create more room for in-depth understanding and align the education system with present-day realities.
She commended stakeholders for their commitment to the review process and assured that the Ministry will closely monitor the rollout to ensure smooth implementation in schools across the country.
