He directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to set up a dedicated account for the fund, which is expected to provide assistance to personnel wounded in active service, as well as widows, widowers, and children of those who died defending the country.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said donating his salaries reflects a personal commitment to ensuring that those who serve the nation are not neglected.
Tinubu also called on state governors, lawmakers, private sector players, and well-meaning Nigerians to support the initiative, noting that full details of how the fund will operate will be released later.
He emphasised that caring for military personnel and their families is a national responsibility, not an act of charity, and must go beyond existing welfare structures.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of service members, stressing that their sacrifices should be matched with proper care and long-term support.
Meanwhile, prayers were held in his honour at the National Mosque Abuja, where religious and traditional leaders gathered to pray for the country and its leadership.
The session was led by the Sultan of Sokoto, represented by the Etsu Nupe, alongside other emirs and Islamic scholars.
They offered prayers for peace, unity, and wisdom for the President as he continues to lead the nation.
The gathering also drew several political leaders and government officials, who joined in prayers for national progress.
