Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated Nigerian athlete Rukayat Suleimon for winning a gold medal at the World Sambo Cup in Yerevan, Armenia.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Suleimon made history at the tournament, organised by the International Sambo Federation, becoming the first female blind sambist in the world to win gold at the competition.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the governor praised her remarkable performance, noting that she has brought pride to both Lagos State and Nigeria.
The Lagos-based athlete, who is also a judo champion, clinched the gold medal after defeating competitors from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan in the women’s 54kg category.
Describing the achievement as historic, Sanwo-Olu said Suleimon has etched her name in global sporting history, adding that her victory on her international debut reflects her determination, preparation and resilience.

He further noted that her success is a strong example of Nigerian excellence on the global stage and an inspiration to young people, especially girls, to pursue their dreams despite challenges.
Suleimon’s victory marks a major milestone for Nigeria in the sport of Sambo and highlights the growing impact of Nigerian athletes in international competitions.
