Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday joined food enthusiasts at the 2025 Lagos Food Festival, where he took part in cooking and tasting seafood rice with stir-fried spinach, describing the event as a platform for family bonding and celebrating Lagos’ rich culinary heritage.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the festival, organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, was held at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, with the theme “Taste Beyond Borders.” Residents were treated to live music, cultural displays and a wide variety of local and international delicacies.

Speaking at the event, Sanwo-Olu said the Lagos Food Festival was designed to bring families together, promote relaxation and showcase food as a powerful medium for telling the Lagos story. He noted that the state government has, over the past six years, empowered numerous entrepreneurs in the agriculture and food value chain through targeted interventions.
“The Lagos Food Festival is one of the many activations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems. They have implemented several interventions in agriculture and food security, empowering innovators and entrepreneurs in the food business,” the governor said. “Beyond that, it is an opportunity for families to come out, enjoy themselves and experience food from different cultures that reflect who we are as Lagosians.”

Sanwo-Olu added that the festival supports caterers and food entrepreneurs by giving them visibility and opportunities to grow their businesses. He also attended an art exhibition on the same day, where about 40 artists created wall paintings, which he described as a reflection of Lagos’ creativity and vibrant culture.
“We want to continue to lift people up and encourage different skills and professions so that Lagos remains a safe and welcoming home for all,” he said.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms Abisola Olusanya, described the Lagos Food Festival as a celebration of the state’s diversity, culture and food ecosystem. She said food best represents Lagos’ multicultural identity and serves as a unifying element across communities.
“The Lagos Food Festival celebrates everything that makes Lagos what it is—our culinary culture, traditions and entertainment,” Olusanya said. “As a ministry, we see ourselves as the curators and custodians of this value chain, and this festival allows us to recognise and promote all the actors who make it possible for Lagosians to eat every day.”
She noted that the festival also provides exposure for food vendors and entrepreneurs, adding that several participants have built successful careers following recognition gained from past editions of the event.
The festival attracted members of the Lagos State Executive Council and House of Assembly, political and traditional leaders, celebrity chefs, youths, vendors and students from tertiary institutions across the state. Some participants showcased their culinary skills during the event and received prizes.
