Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has publicly endorsed his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, as the most suitable person to continue his administration’s legacy, saying he could not think of “surer hands” to take over the leadership of the state.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Sanwo-Olu made the remark on Wednesday during the unveiling of “Sanwo-Olu: Against All Odds, A Photo Story of Resilience in the Face of Adversity,” a visual documentary authored by his Executive Assistant and official photographer, Ademola Olaniran.

Speaking before political leaders, government officials and invited guests at the event, the governor congratulated Hamzat on emerging as the Lagos APC governorship flag bearer for the 2027 election and described him as a trusted partner who had stood by him throughout his time in office.
“To my brother and partner, Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who has stood faithfully beside me through every season of this journey, and who now carries the confidence of our great party as its flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election in Lagos State, the relay I have spoken of tonight continues with you, and I can think of no surer hands for the baton,” Sanwo-Olu said.
Reflecting on his administration, the governor said the book captures not just his story but the resilience of Lagos and its people through some of the state’s most challenging moments.
He recalled that shortly after assuming office in 2019, his administration had to confront the COVID 19 pandemic, the EndSARS protests, the Abule Ado explosion, building collapses and other emergencies.
Despite the setbacks, Sanwo-Olu said Lagos continued to make progress, pointing to projects such as the Blue and Red Rail Lines, the Lekki Deep Sea Port, schools, housing and healthcare initiatives.
According to him, the greatest lesson from Lagos’ development journey is continuity in governance.
The governor said one of his favourite photographs in the book shows four successive governors of Lagos jointly holding a model train, describing the image as a symbol of the state’s commitment to building on the achievements of previous administrations rather than abandoning them.
“In this state, we do not tear down what our predecessors built; we build upon it. I inherited dreams, and I have laboured to hand over foundations,” he said.
Earlier, Deputy Governor Hamzat described the publication as more than a book, saying it provides a compelling account of resilience, leadership and governance.
He said the work chronicles the determination of the Sanwo-Olu administration to continue serving Lagos despite challenges such as the COVID 19 pandemic and the EndSARS protests.
Also speaking, the book reviewer, Kunle Ajibade, praised the publication, saying photography has the unique ability to give history a human face.
According to him, the book preserves important moments in Lagos’ history while documenting the human side of governance and leadership.
