In a major step towards promoting planned urban growth and securing land tenure for host communities, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday presented Land Allocation Letters to 98 villages across Ito-Omu, Sangotedo and Ibeju-Lekki, assuring residents of sustained infrastructure development and improved living conditions.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the allocation letters were presented to representatives of the beneficiary communities during a ceremony held at the Ito-Omu Link Bridge, Sangotedo, marking another milestone in the Lagos State Government’s efforts to implement a comprehensive development plan for the rapidly expanding corridor.

The initiative follows the State Government’s acquisition of 16,300 hectares of land through the New Towns Development Authority (NTDA) to facilitate housing development and other critical infrastructure projects aimed at meeting the growing needs of Lagos residents.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the initiative reflects his administration’s determination to ensure that development in Ito-Omu and adjoining communities is carefully planned, inclusive and beneficial to both present and future generations.

“The future of Lagos cannot be built on unplanned expansion. It must be built on deliberate planning, appropriate infrastructure, secure communities and opportunities for our people to prosper,” the governor said.

He explained that the master plan for the new development would integrate residential, commercial, industrial, institutional and recreational facilities to create sustainable communities while improving investment opportunities and the quality of life for residents.

According to him, the project aligns with the State Government’s THEMES+ Agenda, which prioritises inclusive growth, resilience, sustainable development and economic competitiveness.

Governor Sanwo-Olu assured beneficiaries that the presentation of the allocation letters marks the beginning of a new phase of development, with the government set to provide better road networks, drainage systems, social infrastructure and the proposed Ito-Omu Waterfront Jetty to enhance connectivity and unlock economic opportunities.

“We will continue to work towards opening up these communities with better road access, improved drainage and social infrastructure, while the planned Ito-Omu Waterfront Jetty will strengthen connectivity and ease movement for our people. These interventions will create new opportunities for investment, employment and improved living conditions,” he stated.

The governor also urged beneficiaries to continue supporting government efforts by working with relevant agencies to ensure orderly and sustainable development across the affected communities.

He commended the Lands Bureau, New Towns Development Authority, the Office of the State Surveyor-General, consulting firms and other stakeholders for their professionalism and commitment to the successful execution of the project.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Lands Bureau, Mr. Kamar Olowosago, appreciated the affected communities for releasing their lands for development, noting that the initiative would stimulate socio-economic growth and improve connectivity within the axis.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiary communities, the Onibeju of Ibeju-Lekki, Oba Razak Olasunkanmi, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for the gesture and appealed for the inclusion of both residential and commercial facilities in the proposed New Town.

The monarch also called for the establishment of a technical college in the Ibeju-Lekki axis to equip young people with vocational skills and improve educational opportunities within the communities.

Some of the beneficiary villages include Orofun, Agadangba, Oko-Keji, Okun-Abe, Abegede, Idi-Ori, Anikansogbo, Anwoye Oke, Anwoye Ebute, Ladaba Ebute, Idi Afon, Oguntedo, Megun, Isan, Ipesu, Arapagi Lotu, Ibon, Ito-Omu, Ladaba, Dongo, Oregun and Ladega, among others.
