The Lagos State Government has said recent tax harmonisation reforms have significantly reduced the challenge of multiple taxation, reaffirming its commitment to creating a business-friendly environment, particularly for operators in the tourism sector.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, disclosed this during the inauguration of the new secretariat of the Nigerian Association of Tour Operators (NATOP) in Lagos.

Representing the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, Oyekan-Ismaila said the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had implemented measures to eliminate multiple taxation and improve the ease of doing business in the state.
He explained that while the government had made significant progress, isolated cases could still occur due to some businesses failing to fulfil their tax obligations.
“I can tell you categorically that it has reduced because the governor insisted that all taxes must be harmonised. The Federal Government has also done the same thing. The issue of multiple taxation is something that happened in the past. Where such happens, our office is always available and ready to address it,” he said.
Oyekan-Ismaila urged businesses to comply with tax regulations, noting that evidence of payment would protect taxpayers from being subjected to repeated demands.
Speaking on the inauguration of NATOP’s first permanent secretariat, the permanent secretary described the development as a milestone that reflects the state government’s continued support for tourism development.

He said the facility would provide tourism practitioners with opportunities for networking, training and collaboration while promoting Lagos and Nigeria as preferred tourism destinations.
Also speaking, Chairman of the NATOP 10th Annual General Meeting Planning Committee, Joy Alexander-Ozeigbe, described the new secretariat as a landmark achievement for the association.
She said the facility would give NATOP a permanent identity, strengthen its presence in the domestic and international travel market and complement its digital operations by providing stakeholders with a physical point of engagement.
