The distributed food packs reportedly contained essential household commodities such as bags of rice and garri aimed at supporting families during the festive season.
Speaking through his media aide, Mr. Enitan Olukotun, Senator Abiru said the intervention was part of his continued commitment to the welfare and socio-economic wellbeing of constituents across Lagos East Senatorial District.
According to the lawmaker, the initiative became necessary at a period when many households are facing economic challenges and rising food prices across the country.
“This intervention is borne out of our sincere commitment to continuously identify with the people and provide practical support, particularly at a time many households are facing economic difficulties,” Abiru stated.
He described Eid-el-Kabir as a season that symbolises sacrifice, compassion, generosity, and unity, adding that leaders must continue to support the people during difficult times.
The senator explained that the food distribution programme forms part of his broader social intervention efforts targeted at cushioning the effects of economic hardship on vulnerable residents across the district.
Abiru also expressed confidence that the initiative would complement ongoing economic and food security efforts of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
In addition to the household food packs, the senator also distributed rams and cows to Imams, political leaders, community stakeholders, and other groups within the senatorial district to support the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
He further extended warm greetings to Muslim faithful across Lagos East and Nigeria, urging them to uphold the values of peace, sacrifice, tolerance, and love associated with the celebration.
Residents and beneficiaries who attended the distribution exercise commended the senator for the intervention, describing it as timely support amid current economic realities.
