Speaking during the event, Senator Abiru said the cooperative societies were created to meet the growing demand for accessible capital among traders, artisans, and farmers.
He explained that the earlier 6% interest loan scheme introduced under his leadership was successful, prompting beneficiaries to request a community-driven loan system.
He said “our people asked for a cooperative structure they can manage themselves, and we listened.
These societies are designed to give them full control and sustainable access to capital.”
Each of the 48 societies—spread across the 98 wards—received ₦10 million, totalling ₦480 million.
The empowerment segment saw 2,000 residents receive generating sets, deep freezers, sewing machines, industrial sewing machines, grinding machines, hair dryers, and other tools essential to their trades. Senator Abiru reminded them that “your success is the success of Lagos East Senatorial District.”
The Senator also distributed 12,000 food packs to households across the district, noting that over 48,000 families have benefited previously.
He announced that the next round of distribution begins Wednesday, December 10, 2025.
He added “we must continue to appreciate President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR because everything we are doing aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda. Let us get our voter’s cards ready to re-elect him and other APC candidates in 2027.”
Dignitaries at the event included APC State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi; Ayangburen of Ikorodu, HRM Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi; Former Deputy Governor Prince Abiodun Ogunleye;
Conference 57 Chairman Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa; and APC State Youth Leader Dr. Seriki Muritala. They all commended Senator Abiru’s commitment to quality representation and grassroots development.
Youth groups and LGA Chairmen across the 16 LGAs and LCDAs presented him with gifts in appreciation of his outstanding service to the people of Lagos East.
