Eko Hot Blog reports that the Senate President made the remarks on Wednesday while declaring the second day of the maiden Nigeria Education Forum (NEF 2025) open in Abuja, where he was represented by the Senate Chief Whip, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno.

Akpabio said the nation must return to the era when teachers were respected, well-supported, and regarded as pillars of society. He stressed that providing a conducive learning environment and fair remuneration is essential to securing the future of Nigerian children.

He revealed that the Senate is working to expand educational funding, strengthen accountability mechanisms, and increase access to digital learning so that Nigeria’s academic system can align with the demands of a modern economy.
According to him, education is a national project that requires the collective effort of all tiers of government, as well as the private sector, to thrive. He explained that this understanding also informed the push for full Local Government autonomy, enabling LGAs to contribute meaningfully to strengthening basic education.
Akpabio urged policymakers to build an educational ecosystem where research addresses national challenges, where innovations from universities feed directly into industries, and where every Nigerian child can find a viable pathway to success.

He also called for investments not just in school buildings and materials but in the creativity and potential of young people, saying Nigeria must pursue a future where the country becomes a hub of knowledge and ideas.
The Senate President added that national leaders must commit to creating an egalitarian system that guarantees equal opportunities for every child, regardless of background, to achieve their aspirations.
