The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has called on motorists across the state to adopt responsible parking practices as it prepares to commence the implementation of its structured On-Street Parking Programme, aimed at promoting safer, more orderly and efficient traffic management.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, made the call while highlighting the authority’s ongoing efforts to improve parking management and enhance road safety across Lagos State.
She reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to establishing an effective and transparent parking system, urging motorists to make parking arrangements an essential part of every journey.
“Before leaving home, motorists should think about where they are going, the most suitable mode of transportation and the availability of approved parking spaces close to their destination. Parking should become a pre-thought, not an afterthought,” she said.
Mrs. Adelabu disclosed that LASPA is fully prepared to roll out the enhanced On-Street Parking Programme following extensive planning, testing and system improvements.
She explained that designated streets across Lagos would be clearly marked to indicate approved parking areas, paid parking zones and locations where parking is prohibited.
The LASPA boss urged motorists to pay attention to road signs and pavement markings, including red lines, single yellow lines and double yellow lines, noting that the measures are designed to improve traffic flow and enhance public safety.
She also clarified that paid parking is already a familiar practice in many parts of Lagos, stressing that the new initiative seeks to introduce a more transparent and accountable system.
“Lagosians are already paying for parking in many parts of the city. Our goal is to ensure that these payments are made through a structured, accountable system that benefits the public rather than unregulated individuals,” she stated.
Mrs. Adelabu appealed to residents and motorists to support the initiative by complying with parking regulations and embracing responsible parking habits.
“Building a more organised, accessible and safer Lagos requires the cooperation of everyone. We encourage all motorists to observe parking rules and work with us to make this initiative a success,” she added.
The On-Street Parking Programme forms part of the Lagos State Government’s broader efforts to improve traffic management, reduce indiscriminate parking and create a more organised urban environment for residents and visitors.
