A historic moment unfolded in Epe Division on Sunday, March 2, as Sheikh Sheriffdeen Asalejo was officially turbaned as the Vice President of the League of Imams and Alfas.

The grand ceremony, which brought together notable Islamic scholars, community leaders, and government officials, was led by Sheikh Sadala Abiola Aliru, the President-General of the League of Imams and Alfas, Epe Division.
The event was marked by a strong sense of unity and reverence for Islamic heritage, particularly in Ibonwon, where Sheikh Asalejo serves as the Chief Imam.
Recognizing the historical importance of the town, the Chairman of Eredo LCDA, Hon. Monsuru Akinloye, expressed deep appreciation for Sheikh Sadala’s leadership and reaffirmed the religious and cultural significance of Ibonwon in the Islamic history of Eredo.
“Ibonwon is the home of Islamic heritage in Eredo. The first central mosque in the division is here, and this town has played a crucial role in the spread of Islam in this region,” Hon. Akinloye stated.
He urged the Muslim community in Ibonwon to be proactive in their religious engagements and to uphold the values of Islam.

In his address, Sheikh Sadala Aliru reflected on the deep-rooted Islamic legacy in Epe Division. He noted that the Oke-Balogun Central Mosque, established in 1862, was the first in the region, followed by the Ibonwon Central Mosque in 1905.
“Our history as a people of faith is rich, and it is our duty to preserve it for future generations,” he remarked.
The newly turbaned Vice President, Sheikh Sheriffdeen Asalejo, expressed profound gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him.

He called for unity among members of the League of Imams and Alfas and encouraged continuous collaboration for the advancement of Islam in Epe Division.
