The Presidency has announced that Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave after receiving approval from President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Eko Hot Blog gathered that the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, said the leave, which began on August 6, 2026, is the Vice President’s first official break since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
According to the statement, Shettima will use the period for study, personal reflection and intellectual development as part of efforts to strengthen his capacity for public service.
Nkwocha explained that the leave would also provide the Vice President with an opportunity to assess ongoing government programmes, study emerging national and global policy issues and prepare for the next phase of the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Presidency noted that since taking office, Shettima has played a central role in coordinating key government initiatives, particularly in the areas of economic growth, food security, humanitarian interventions, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.
It also highlighted his position as Chairman of the National Economic Council, where he works with the 36 state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other senior government officials to deliberate on policies affecting the economy and citizens’ welfare.
Beyond his domestic responsibilities, the statement said Shettima has represented President Tinubu at several regional and international engagements, promoting Nigeria’s interests in investment, economic integration, peace and security, climate action and sustainable development.
The Presidency further reaffirmed the Vice President’s commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s administration, describing him as dedicated to advancing policies aimed at building a more secure, productive and prosperous Nigeria.
It added that Shettima is expected to resume his official duties at the expiration of the two-week leave with renewed focus and energy.
