The visit follows a late-night raid on a military base in Benisheikh, Borno State, where insurgents believed to be members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province carried out a coordinated offensive in the early hours of Thursday.
Surviving soldiers said the attackers moved in large numbers and struck from multiple directions, hitting several military positions before extending the assault toward nearby civilian areas. One account suggested the operation appeared carefully planned, with the attackers seemingly familiar with troop locations.
Meanwhile, Operation Hadin Kai has disputed reports of heavy casualties. Its spokesperson, Sani Uba, clarified that four personnel, two officers and two soldiers, were confirmed dead, contrary to higher figures circulating publicly.

He also dismissed claims of equipment failure involving the brigade commander, explaining that the Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle being used was only briefly disabled during the battle as the commander coordinated operations.
Uba stressed that the incident highlights the intensity of the confrontation and the direct involvement of senior officers, maintaining that the official casualty figures remain as released by military authorities.
