Lagos State Police Command has rescued six children, aged between six and 13 years, from an apartment in Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa, Lagos, where they had allegedly been held for an unspecified period.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the rescued children, identified as Chidimma (13), Chisom (12), Ikechukwu (10), Ifeoma (9), Emeka (8), and Oluchi (6), were found in the flat after a distress call was made to the security team of Jakande Residents Association.
According to the police, a Nigerian woman based in the United Kingdom, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, was responsible for keeping the children in the apartment. It was revealed that she sent a man named Levinus, who is currently at large, to occasionally deliver food to them before leaving.
The rescue operation was initiated after the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the estate, Ajibola Lalas, alerted residents via a WhatsApp message about suspected child trafficking within the estate.
Responding swiftly, the Ejigbo Divisional Police Officer (DPO) accompanied the security team to the apartment, where they were reportedly shocked by what they found. The children were immediately taken to the Ejigbo Police Division for further investigation.
Following extensive questioning, the children revealed that they had been living alone in the apartment and were uncertain whether the woman in the UK was their biological mother.
One of them, Oluchi, stated, “Our mummy is in London. She told us we are from Abia State. I was six years old when I was brought here. She usually sends Uncle Levinus to bring food for us, and after giving us food, he would leave. We stay alone in the house.”
Authorities have since transferred the case to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja for further investigation. Meanwhile, the police have placed the apartment under lock and key and have intensified efforts to track down Levinus and other individuals connected to the case.
Speaking on the development, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hudenyin, confirmed the children’s rescue and emphasized that investigations were ongoing.
“We are working to locate other suspects at large while ensuring the children’s safety,” he said.
The Jakande Estate security team has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The CSO, Ajibola Lalas, encouraged community members to familiarize themselves with their neighbors to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“A secure and safe environment is our primary objective. If any zone notices suspicious activities, they should quickly bring it to the attention of the estate security team,” he stated.
