A political realignment unfolded in the House of Representatives on Tuesday as six lawmakers from Oyo State aligned with Governor Seyi Makinde formally left the Peoples Democratic Party for the Allied Peoples Movement.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the defections were announced during plenary by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who read several letters from lawmakers notifying the House of their decision to switch political parties following the Sallah recess.

The Oyo lawmakers who joined the APM are Anthony Adebayo, Adedeji Olajide, Sunday Makanjuola, Oyedeji Oyeshina, Fola Oyekunle and Adigun Adekunle.
In separate letters, the legislators attributed their departure from the PDP to lingering internal disputes and leadership challenges within the party, saying the situation had influenced their decision to seek a new political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.

Their move follows Makinde’s earlier defection to the APM, where he has already indicated interest in contesting the 2027 presidential election.
With the latest development, six of the 14 members representing Oyo State in the House of Representatives have now aligned with the governor in the APM.

In Bauchi State, Auwalu Gwalabe left the PDP for the APM, while Katsina lawmaker Shehu Dalhatu switched from the ruling All Progressives Congress to the PDP.
Dalhatu said his decision followed consultations with constituents and concerns over developments within the APC.
Similarly, Delta State representative Etanabene Benedict abandoned the Labour Party for the PDP, citing internal disagreements within his former party.

The PDP also welcomed Alex Egbona from the APC. Despite changing parties, Egbona assured constituents that his commitment to legislative duties would remain unchanged.
Elsewhere, Edo lawmaker Esosa Iyawe announced another party switch, leaving the APC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress. He attributed the move to unresolved differences with the APC leadership in Edo State.
In Nasarawa State, Gbefwi Gaza also changed political allegiance, moving from the Social Democratic Party to the Labour Party, adding to the wave of defections that reshaped the composition of political parties in the lower chamber.
