- Following a series of renewed bandit attacks, the Deputy Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Kabiru Ibrahim, is calling for an urgent increase in security infrastructure.
- The lawmaker identified Mallammawar Yari in Kware Local Government Area as a critical vulnerability point due to its strategic border with Rabah LGA.
- Residents continue to live in fear as criminal groups exploit the local terrain to launch “hit-and-run” attacks before retreating into hideouts.
The security situation in Sokoto State has prompted a high-level appeal from the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Kabiru Ibrahim, who is urging the Federal Government to establish a permanent military base in the Mallammawar Yari community.
Eko Hot Blog reports that this plea follows a recent security breach in the Kware Local Government Area, where bandits have reportedly intensified their activities.

Mallammawar Yari sits in a geographically sensitive zone, sharing a boundary with Rabah Local Government Area. According to Ibrahim, this proximity creates a corridor that criminal elements frequently exploit.
The lawmaker explained that the terrain allows bandits to strike quickly and escape into neighboring hideouts, often outpacing current rapid-response efforts.
“The presence of a military base will strengthen security operations and help protect lives and property,” Ibrahim stated while addressing the press regarding the latest breach.
He emphasized that while the Nigerian Armed Forces have made significant strides in the North-West, the Mallammawar Yari axis requires a more permanent and fortified presence to serve as a deterrent and ensure immediate intervention during emergencies.
The Deputy Speaker highlighted that the strategic location of the community has made it an “easy target.”
He warned that without a permanent military formation, the cycle of displacement, destruction of property, and loss of life would likely continue.
A permanent base, he argued, would provide the necessary infrastructure to consolidate the progress made by ongoing security operations in the state.

Beyond the physical military presence, Ibrahim also appealed to the local population.
He urged residents of Mallammawar Yari and neighboring villages to maintain high levels of vigilance and cooperate fully with security agencies.
He stressed that providing timely and reliable intelligence is vital to tracking down criminal elements who blend into the difficult terrain.
As the North-West region continues to battle the scourge of banditry, the eyes of Sokoto residents are now on the Federal Government and military authorities to see if this request for a strategic base will be granted to restore peace and stability to the border communities.
