The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State, Alhaji Sadiq Achida, has launched a strong attack on former Governor Aminu Tambuwal, describing him as “politically retired” and without any viable future in Nigerian politics.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking to journalists on Monday, Achida alleged that Tambuwal never built an independent political base, insisting that his rise to prominence was largely through the influence of political godfathers, particularly Senator Aliyu Wamakko.
According to him, “No Abuja alliance, no media propaganda, no recycled coalition can revive a politician whose only legacy is propaganda and a collapsed state.”
Tambuwal, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has recently been linked with a coalition of opposition figures, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), seeking to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu in 2027.
But Achida dismissed such moves, branding Tambuwal’s eight-year tenure as governor as “an era of stagnation, abandoned projects, and asset stripping.” He further accused the ex-governor of refusing to formally hand over to his successor in 2023, a move he claimed was designed to avoid accountability for the state of affairs he left behind.
“Tambuwal’s actions were calculated to frustrate the present administration,” Achida alleged.
In contrast, the APC chairman praised Governor Aliyu for what he described as transparent and prudent financial management. “Salaries are paid on or before the 21st of every month, the new minimum wage has been implemented, and major infrastructure projects are ongoing, all without borrowing. Governor Ahmed Aliyu is focused on the welfare of the people, not looting their resources,” he said.
When contacted, a close aide to Tambuwal, who preferred not to be named, dismissed Achida’s comments as baseless. He added that a formal response would be made after due consultation with the former governor.
