Taskforce Nabs 56 Suspects in Late-Night Lagos Raid

The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce has arrested 56 suspects during an overnight clean-up and enforcement operation carried out on the Mainland area of the state.

According to the commissioner, the exercise began at about 12:20 a.m. on January 10, 2026, as part of the government’s ongoing effort to rid Lagos of criminal activities and enforce environmental laws.

Wahab said the taskforce moved into the Mainland axis, with particular focus on Akowonjo Road around Cele Bus Stop, where officers discovered widespread violations.

“The entire stretch of Akowonjo Road by Cele Bus Stop had been taken over by illegal beer parlours, open drug peddling at different levels, and the presence of criminal elements,” the commissioner stated.

During the operation, officials cleared the area of activities obstructing traffic and posing security risks. Chairs, tables, and other items that had been spread across the road were seized to restore free movement for motorists and pedestrians.

At the end of the exercise, 56 suspects were arrested. Wahab confirmed that they would be arraigned in court as soon as possible.

He added that the operation is part of the taskforce’s continuous enforcement drive across Lagos, aimed at maintaining order, safety, and a cleaner environment in the state.
