The Lagos State Government has commenced the prosecution of 45 individuals and companies over alleged tax defaults running into billions of naira.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the defendants have been arraigned before the Lagos Revenue Court.

According to him, the action is aimed at recovering outstanding tax liabilities assessed by the state government.
Among those listed are Chidi Ajaere Emmanuel, who allegedly owes N35.4 million; Ifeanyi Uzoaru, N13.5 million; and Olufunmilola Abe, N30.7 million. Corporate entities such as IENG Nigeria Ltd. are said to owe N67.1 million, while Venture Garden Nigeria Ltd. faces liabilities of N72.3 million.
Other companies named include GMT Energy Resources Ltd., with N145.9 million; Sheriff Deputies Ltd., N132.2 million; and Funds and Electronics Transfer, N97.8 million.
Also on the list are Bi Courtney Aviation Services, owing N38.7 million, and Barry Callebaut Nigeria Limited, with N33.5 million in outstanding taxes.
Pedro noted that some defaulters who were previously served pre action notices have since settled their liabilities and will no longer face prosecution.

He, however, warned that failure to comply with tax obligations, including filing annual returns and paying assessed dues, would attract penalties, interest, and possible legal action.
The state government reiterated its commitment to enforcing tax compliance and boosting revenue generation to support public services and infrastructure development.
