The Nigeria Police Force in Jigawa State have arrested a 27-year-old man, Kabiru Nuhu, for allegedly setting his 60-year-old father on fire in Kazaure Local Government Area.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect poured a suspected petroleum substance on the victim before igniting it.

The incident reportedly occurred on April 1, 2026, at about 6:30 am in Magama Quarters, Kazaure town, following a distress call received by the police.
“The victim was found in critical condition, while the suspect also had fresh burns and injuries on his forehead, arms, and toes,” Adam stated.

The injured father was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died while receiving treatment.
The suspect has since been taken into custody and is expected to face a charge of patricide. Police authorities disclosed that he would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Haruna Yahaya, condemned the act and called for calm, assuring that the motive behind the attack would be uncovered.
“We are working to establish the motive behind the attack, and justice will be served,” he said.
The police also urged residents to resolve disputes peacefully and report early signs of domestic violence, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining peace and order in the state.
